Family Photography in Wimbledon – A gorgeously natural Summer photo shoot on Wimbledon Common

It was early August when I met this lovely family on Wimbledon Common. They’d been bought a voucher for a photography session with me and it was their first time having professional family photos taken. They were, understandably, a little apprehensive. So many of us have only had experience of very posed photos and hate the thought of smiling on demand! I reassured them that I don’t work like that at all. I explained how I’d keep everything super relaxed, making sure they had family photos with natural expressions, that really felt like them.

We met super early. 8am in fact! Their little boy had recently started waking up earlier in the mornings so we didn’t want to be getting started just as he was ready for his first nap. 8am worked perfectly for me though! The light at that time in the morning was beautiful. So soft and flattering. It was definitely worth the early start!

It was my first time taking photos on Wimbledon Common and it was the perfect location. Despite it being the time when everyone was heading off to work, the spots we chose were really quiet. The long summer grass bounced the light beautifully, making it even softer. And the trees gave us some gorgeous backdrops, as well as giving us just the right amount of shade. Of course, we also had the advantage of being just next to Wimbledon Village – perfect for post shoot coffees! If you’re planning for family photography in Wimbledon or South West London, I’d definitely recommend this location.

I worked quickly during the first twenty minutes of our time together. At this age, little ones can get sleepy or fed up fast! This little boy was amazing though! After capturing all the key photos, we were able to play some more and create a beautiful gallery of images with so many gorgeously natural photos. My family photo sessions usually take around an hour but I don’t watch the clock. Each session is unique to the family I’m photographing.

It was such a pleasure to be able to capture so many beautiful, timeless images for this family. Family photograhy doesn’t have to be posed and staged. It can be a relaxed, natural and beautiful.
