Natural Baby Photography – A Family Session at Home in Surrey

Natural Baby Photography –

A Family Session at Home in Surrey

There’s something so special about capturing photos of a family’s first few months with a new baby. Those first few months are when you really get to know each other… when you first fall in love. Being invited into a new baby’s first home at this time is such an honour.

This little one was three months at the time of our session. I’d taken mum’s maternity photos, which she absolutely loved, and, once her baby arrived, she decided she really wanted to capture some gorgeous images for when her little girl grew up. These moments are so fleeting and the first few months with a new baby go by in such a blur. Some days seem to go on forever but then you blink and they’re growing out of their outfits and getting bigger by the second!

With two big sisters, this lucky girl has so much love around her. When I arrived at their house, the older girls and dad were a bit unsure about the idea of a photo session. They relaxed so quickly though. I chatted away to them and we were all in fits of giggles about how much their baby absolutely loved the camera! She seemed to be transfixed by it, especially by the sound of the shutter, which worked well for me!

Next, we gave most of the family a rest while I captured some gorgeous detail shots of baby, using a macro filter on my lens. These are the little details that you never want to forget! I look at my own children now and it’s hard to believe they were ever this small!

We then took photos of mum and baby together, capturing the amazing bond between them. As mums, it’s all too often that we’re the ones behind the camera, taking photos of everyone else. I’m so passionate about getting mums into photos. Both of them will treasure these images forever. I was thrilled that the photo of mum kissing her baby’s head was accepted by PhotoVogue, Vogue’s online database showcasing photographers from around the world. I love this image and, most importantly, so does mum. I’m so excited that Vogue do too though!

This family and baby session was super relaxed and I got to know the family really well during our brief time together. Our session took about an hour and a half, including a few breaks for nappy changes, outfit changes and feeding. The great thing about in home photos is that you already have everything there that you need! I remember how difficult leaving the house on time for anything was in those early weeks!

If you’re looking for natural baby photos, I’d love to hear from you. You can contact me through my website or email me at helen@helendukephotography.co.uk. I cover all of Surrey, West and South-West London and many other areas too.
