Are you thinking about an outdoor family photo shoot this year but not sure which season to book for?
Spring flowers, lazy Summer days, Autumn leaves or wrapping up in cosy Winter woolies. Which is your favourite season? The time of year can make a massive difference to the look and feel your family photos. Here’s a rundown of my favourite aspects of each season…
Spring Family Photo Shoot
Pastel Colours
Spring is full of soft colours and sparkling light. If you love pastels, this is the season for you! I absolutely love choosing Spring locations with blossom, daffoldils and gorgeous Spring flowers.
Morning and Evening Shoots
Early morning shoots work well for little ones – I often meet families at 9am. But sunset isn’t too late if you’re hoping for beautiful golden hour images. In mid Spring, I meet families around 6pm for evening sessions. The light is ao soft and flattering before sunset.
Summer Family Photo Shoot
Sunshine!
Long grass and dreamy, sunny days. The weather is usually more predictableat this time of year (we’ll just pretend last Summer didn’t happen!). This makes outfit planning easier and gives a soft, romantic feel to your photos.
Late Summer Holiday Sessions
Morning sessions work well for little ones but a golden hour session is still possible if you’re happy to stay out a bit later. Perfect for the summer holidays. Your children might even let you have a lie in the next morning!
Autumn Family Photo Shoot
Rich colours
Who doesn’t love the beautiful, rich colours as the leaves change? This is such a popular time of year for family photos.
Golden Hour
Early sunsets mean even little ones can have a golden hour shoot. In November, I often meet families in the mid afternoon. The light is warm and twinkly, giving everything a golden glow. Images from an Autumn photo shoot also make perfect family Christmas presents.
Winter Family Photo Shoot
Indoor shoots
Lots of my sessions now move indoors. Think snuggles on the sofa, bouncing on the bed and playing with their toys.
Wrap up!
An outdoor shoot is still a possibility though if you’re prepared to wrap up warm! Finding an area with evergreen trees means we can still include some beautiful colour in your images. The low sun is stunning and super flattering too.
So which season would you pick? I’d love to know. If you’re looking for a family photography session this year, do get in touch. I’d love to hear from you! Get in touch here
